As part of the ongoing Quality Improvement Training of Trainers (QI ToT) workshop in Lagos, Project Aisha is addressing a critical gap: the shortage of skilled frontline workers and inefficient improvement system to strengthen service delivery across the state.
On September 22nd and 23rd, ππ ππ«π¨π§ππ₯π’π§π π©π«π¨π―π’πππ«π¬ participated in competency-building sessions designed to prepare them as trainers, coaches, and mentors who will cascade QI practices across health facilities. The training emphasized systems thinking, Kaizenβs 5S framework, and structured problem-solving. These approaches enable participants to identify gaps, prioritize challenges, and design practical change ideas.
Participants described the sessions as transformational, noting that the experience was both an excellent engine for change and a game-changer for quality improvement. Beyond technical skills, they also gained insights into human psychology and team dynamics, which are critical for sustaining QI at the facility level.
This investment builds on the significant progress already achieved under Project Aisha, where maternal deaths have been reduced by 64% and PEE, PPH, and obstructed labour deaths by 51% in Lagos. With this new group of QI trainers, the state is better positioned to institutionalize QI and sustain improvements in maternal health outcomes at scale.
