In Lagos State, a dedicated group of 80 QI trainers is helping transform maternal care at the primary level. After receiving intensive capacity-building on QI facilitated by Project Aisha in September 2025, these trainers stepped confidently into their roles, equipped to train, coach, and mentor frontline healthcare workers across the state.
Their newly strengthened skills quickly translated into action. Leading four cohorts of training across 69 PHCs in 16 LGAs (all LGAs except the 4 pilot LGAs – Ifako Ijaiye, Epe, Agege and Alimosho). These state trainers guided over 150 frontline healthcare workers through practical, hands-on learning on QI and introduced the “Change Package Document”, a maternal QI implementation guide developed by Project Aisha. What began as a training initiative has grown into a movement powered by strong local ownership.
Today, these trainers are not only passing on knowledge, they are sustaining a culture of quality improvement that is helping to strengthen maternal care for women and families at the primary level of care.
Project Aisha remains committed to strengthening healthcare workers’ competencies as a foundation for sustaining reductions in maternal mortality and improving overall maternal health outcomes.
