The Diabetes Awareness and Care (DAC) project held its first quarterly data review in Abuja (March 11-12) and Lagos (March 13) to assess project progress, data quality, and service delivery improvements. These sessions allowed key stakeholders to review milestones, address challenges, and plan the next steps for sustainable impact.
In Abuja, the project reached 152,944 people with awareness messages, screened 10,577 for Type 2 Diabetes and hypertension, and referred 323 individuals for further treatment. Solutions to challenges like data collection issues and staff exclusion were discussed, including enhanced coordination and a dedicated WhatsApp platform for updates and training.
In Lagos, the review covered 50 facilities, reaching 32,953 people with screenings and referring 7,173 for further treatment. Key challenges included healthcare worker shortages and data management.
Moving forward, efforts will focus on mentorship programs, improving data collection, and enhancing communication frameworks to drive continued progress in diabetes care across Nigeria.
