Health leaders from across Kaduna State gathered in Zaria for a pivotal capacity-building workshop under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII). The Cascade Training on Health Systems Strengthening and Annual Operational Plans (AOPs) aimed to enhance adoption of the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) and improve the quality of state-level AOPs.
The four-day training equipped health planners with systems thinking tools to design integrated, evidence-based, and results-oriented plans. It also marked a transition from fragmented, Excel-based methods to a digital AOP platform that enables real-time tracking, alignment with national priorities, and greater accountability.
Participants included officials from MDAs, LGHAs, and technical units. Facilitated by the Kaduna State Ministry of Health and partners, the sessions covered priority setting, root cause analysis, and costing within available resources.
HSDF played a leading role throughout the training, providing technical assistance and hands-on sessions. In a moment of recognition, HSDF received a standing ovation for its longstanding support to Kadunaโs health planning and reform efforts.
