Last week, Project Aisha, in collaboration with the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB), hosted the second round of a 7-day Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) training for 35 mid-level midwives from selected facilities in Lagos. Spearheaded by Nurse Ann Olasumbo Oyesanya, Director of Nursing Services at LSPHCB, the training aimed to strengthen maternal and newborn care across Lagos State.

The program combined classroom instruction, hands-on practical sessions, clinical simulations, and facility-based learning to ensure both knowledge retention and practical application. Key focus areas included Infection Prevention and Control, Respectful Maternity Care, Group Antenatal Care, Postpartum Hemorrhage Management, Essential Newborn Care, and MPDSR.

To turn insights gleaned into action, each participant was tasked to develop an actionable plan tailored to their respective facility’s needs. Reflecting on the impact of the training, Nurse Ademoye from Ayantuga PHC (Mushin) shared, “I am truly grateful for this training. The practical sessions have boosted my confidence, deepened my understanding, and prepared me better for real-life emergencies.”

We remain committed to mentoring these midwives as they translate their training into life-saving care.
