Malnutrition remains a topic of major concern in Nigeria with a disproportionate burden of malnutrition seen across states. The Nigerian government partnered with the World Bank (WB) to address Nigeria’s nutrition crisis. This partnership resulted in the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) project, a performance-based project focused on improving the delivery of nutrition interventions and implementing these interventions in key areas of need.
HSDF provides technical advisory work for nutrition covering institutional capacity assessments and stakeholder coordination and alignment on the knowledge management and learning agenda
The nutrition program capacity audit assessment was conducted in three phases:
• HSDF developed a state selection to guide this assessment. • A conceptual framework was based on similar, previously conducted studies. • A set of data collection tools and an analysis plan were developed for the assessment.
• A review of program reports, policy documents, strategic plans, and grey literature was done at a state and national level. • Semi-structured interviews were administered to state nutrition desk officers and development partners in the eight selected states.
• The HSDF team analyzed the data collected in Phase 2 guided by the conceptual framework. • A synthesis of findings was conducted, and recommendations were developed for the selected states and the World Bank
HSDF is currently supporting the ANRiN project with Knowledge Management and Learning (KML). This includes stakeholder coordination and alignment on KML agenda for nutrition, co-development of tailored knowledge products to create a knowledge hub, technical support implementation research, technical support and advisory for nutrition data collection and utilization, monitoring knowledge use, and evaluating outcomes of knowledge use.
