Liberia.
Project Overview
Reliable data is fundamental to effective health system planning, resource allocation, and service delivery. Recognising the need for stronger health information systems in Nigeria, the Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF), with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, implemented the Strengthening Data Systems and Performance Management project between June 2014 and February 2019.
Weak health information systems often limit governments’ ability to monitor programme performance, identify service delivery gaps, and allocate resources effectively. Inconsistent data quality and limited use of routine health information reduced the ability of health managers to make timely, evidence-informed decisions.
There was a need for stronger systems that could improve data quality, institutionalise performance monitoring, and promote accountability across the health sector.
HSDF contributed technical support to the Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator’s engagement around the Liberia Health Equity Fund.
The work formed part of a wider portfolio of HSSA activities designed to support locally driven health system strengthening and institutional capacity.
Through the engagement, HSDF contributed its health systems perspective and technical expertise to the Accelerator’s work in Liberia.
HSDF’s work on the Liberia Health Equity Fund contributed to its growing portfolio of health systems strengthening engagements across Africa.
The project also complemented HSDF’s other work in Liberia under the Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator, including support to John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFKMC) and cross-country learning initiatives designed to strengthen health system performance.
