The COVID-19 pandemic impeded access to health facilities across the world. As an organization, we have been engaged in several interventions at global, national and state levels to identify essential services disrupted by the pandemic and provide evidence-based information to policy makers to make informed decisions
Below are some of our other interventions on the COVID-19 pandemic
In Kano State, Nigeria, we aided in conducting an impact assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic on Primary Health Care service delivery. These results led to the implementation of a new governance structure to guide the resumption of basic healthcare services. In addition, we assisted in the training of vaccine distribution for health care workers and frontline staff.
As part of the Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator and the Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage, we worked with representatives from eight countries, including Nigeria, to gain insight on facilitating cross-country exchanges and providing support to countries struggling with their pandemic responses. In Niger State, we supported the State’s Chief Epidemiologist who heads the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) in developing a web-based dashboard to monitor the pandemic by tracking eight key indicators.

We also supported virtual capacity building sessions for key stakeholders including, the Honorable Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health, and the Executive Director of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA)
To facilitate the continuous provision of essential services in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Imo State, we routinely provide personal protective equipment to frontline health workers in selected health facilities to ensure important health services are not disrupted.
