The Accelerator team is currently supporting the John F. Kennedy Medical Centre (JFKMC), Liberia to improve the quality of care delivered to patients at the hospital. The team’s support impacts the hospital’s financial systems, supply chain and service delivery.

In February 2022, JFKMC received five computers (four units of desktop computers and one laptop) from USAID through the Accelerator team. These have been distributed to five units at the hospital, to support its goal of generating high-quality data for evidence-based decision making. This will also impact the national level as available data will be reported promptly through Liberia’s District Health Information System (DHIS) and Stock Status Requisition and Reporting (SSRR).

This support stems from the collaboration between the Accelerator team and Jhpiego’s Strategic Technical Assistance for Improved Health System Performance and Health Outcomes (STAIP) team. Formed in October 2021, the partnership worked to identify areas of synergy to further strengthen JFKMC’s data systems.

Previously, the Accelerator collaborated with JFKMC’s Medical Records team, the Health Management and Information System (HMIS), M&E and Research (HMER) unit of the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Liberia to identify challenges and implement possible solutions (including staff training on use of data tools, and supply of adequate data collection/reporting tools) towards improving service delivery at JFKMC.

The Accelerator is a global, USAID Cooperative Agreement to strengthen institutions and processes and build local expertise, to ensure that health systems tackle future challenges and weather shocks with less reliance on external support. The Accelerator is led by Results for Development (R4D) with support from Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF, headquartered in Nigeria) and ICF.
