Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF), in partnership with Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), held its maiden meeting on 4th August 2021, to commence support for Private Sector Engagement in Kano State.

In attendance were selected private Medical Directors in Kano State and members of the pioneer Kano State Medical Directors’ Grid, a voluntary network of private hospitals in the state, established to share ideas and build capacity in implementing management systems.

The meeting, held at Chilla Luxury Suites, Kano. It aimed to present an overview of HSDF’s Private Sector Engagement in other states and build participants’ capacity to implement adequate financial management systems to strengthen and aid the sustainability of private practices.

HSDF has been working in Kano State since 2014. Some of its achievements in the state include providing support to PHIMA in private health facility service availability assessment, contributing to the development of PHIMA operational guidelines, and the training of 187 private health facilities on National Health Management Information System (NHMIS) reporting tools, thus increasing the reporting rates of private health facilities in Kano State on DHIS2 from 13% in 2015 to 76% in 2017.

HSDF’s interventions in the private sector engagement were previously focused on Lagos and the Imo States. Having successfully implemented interventions in both states, the organization has decided to extend this support to private practitioners in Kano State.

It is expected that this platform will benefit individual members and positively impact healthcare services in Kano State.
