Despite the increase in childbirths in health facilities in Lagos state, the patronage of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) remains a common feature. Thus, to reduce maternal deaths, it is expedient to ensure safer birth practices are embraced among this group.
Project Aisha a consortium consisting of HSDF, IHP, mDoc, and IHI, in collaboration with the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board conducted a one-day refresher training for TBAs in Ifako Ijaiye and Epe LGAs on May 19th and 23rd respectively. Ingress Health Partners led the training covering the identification of maternal danger signs and high-risk pregnant women, prompt referral system of pregnancy complications, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), and the use of community Health Management Information System (C-HMIS). Newly acquired knowledge will make TBAs better equipped to promote early referral of pregnant women with complications and save the lives of the mothers and their newborns.
