Kaduna State has taken the lead among three pilot states in introducing a new approach to budget performance monitoring in the health sector. A 3-day training convened by the Ministry of Health brought together members of the Planning and Budgeting Committee and Planning Cells across MDAs to build technical capacity and promote data-driven decision-making. Participants engaged in hands-on sessions to better understand the state’s health budget structure, utilize the harmonized budget performance monitoring tool, and develop action plans to address service delivery and implementation gaps.

Facilitated by budget experts and supported by Results for Development (R4D), the training also fostered peer learning and collaboration. As Kaduna tackles challenges such as delayed cash releases and misaligned fiscal planning, Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation is providing ongoing technical assistance, guiding the use of a live Excel-based tool and supporting AOP reviews to improve budget transparency, alignment, and performance.
