Nigeria is strategically important to global malaria control efforts. An estimated 97% of the country’s 176 million population is still at risk of malaria. Nigeria also accounts for 11% of all malaria-related child deaths worldwide. While the focus and targets of the national malaria program have evolved over time, the country now needs to shift gears from malaria control to elimination.
