Nigeria continues to face one of the world’s highest maternal mortality rates, accounting for nearly 20% of global maternal deaths. In response, the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII) was launched to accelerate progress in high-burden LGAs like Ibeju-Lekki, where the need for quality maternal and newborn care remains urgent.

Through Project AISHA, HSDF is providing technical expertise to Lagos State, supporting the design of evidence-based maternal and neonatal health interventions and integrating ongoing QI efforts to strengthen service delivery and accountability.

Following a collaborative engagement with the Lagos State Ministry of Health, FMOH, and partners, stakeholders co-created a MAMII Implementation Blueprint and inaugurated the MAMII Task Force, with HSDF as a key member, to oversee effective execution.

By aligning with the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) and promoting data-driven, digital, and community-led innovations, MAMII represents a unified front to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths—and build a stronger, more resilient health system for women and families across Nigeria.
