The sixth steering committee meeting of the DAC project was held virtually on July 23rd, 2021. The objectives of the meeting were to present project updates (from June 2018-date), proffer solutions to challenges encountered during the project, and align on critical next steps.

In attendance were the Director Public Health, Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), Dr. Morenike Alex-Okoh; the National Coordinator, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) FMoH, Dr Oyinlola Sanni; the Director Public Health, FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat, Dr Sadiq Abdurrahman; the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr Ndaeyo Iwot ; and the National President, Diabetes Association of Nigeria (DAN), Dr Alkali Mohammed. Also present were the CEO, Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF), Dr. Kelechi Ohiri and the
consultant endocrinologist from the FCT.

HSDF representatives provided the project implementation status and findings from the mentoring visits in the two states −FCT and Imo State. So far, 11 of 14 project targets have been achieved and surpassed. The immediate next steps centered around meeting outstanding targets, and preparing for the project close-out within the next six months.

Overall, the stakeholders were pleased with the project’s progress and commended the project team.

The DAC steering committee is scheduled to take place every quarter. It comprises 11 committee members- the Director Public Health FMoH (acting as the chair); the National Commissioner, NCDs, FMoH; Executive Secretaries of the Imo State and FCT PHC Development Agencies; President, DAN; DPH, FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat and Imo SMoH; Consultant Endocrinologists from Imo and the FCT;  and the CEO, HSDF.
