Following the inauguration of a new governing board in 2019, Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF) supported the Niger State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA) to conduct its quarter one board meeting on 17th March 2020, at the Niger State Government House.
The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the SPHCDA board and Deputy Governor of the State, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso. It had in attendance representatives of several Ministries, Departments and Agencies, donors, implementing partners as well as Civil Society Organizations.
Besides providing a platform to update the board members on the achievements the state had made towards achieving Primary Health Care Under One Roof (PHCUOR), the findings from two studies recently conducted by HSDF in the state were also shared. These are: The Niger State Health Accounts study and the Health Workforce Productivity study. In addition, it served as an opportunity to highlight the challenges in the ongoing PHC project and solicit collaborative stakeholder support towards addressing these challenges.
At the close of the meeting, the stakeholders reached a consensus on the collective effort to migrate Primary Health Care Human Resources for Health (PHC HRH) and their salaries from the LGA account to the SPHCDA; approval for the remittance of 25 million naira contribution funds to the agency; as well as advocacy for resources mobilization and incentivizing rural posting.
HSDF is supporting the SPHCDA in Niger State to institutionalize a governance structure that further strengthens her resolve in delivering on the PHCUOR mandate. It does this by partnering with the state to strengthen its health system by focusing on the key areas of Leadership & Governance, Human Resources for Health, Health Care Financing and Service Delivery.
