Following a comprehensive assessment of the financial management systems in some of the private facilities supported by the Nigerian Healthcare Quality Initiative (NHQI), HSDF facilitated a financial management training on 13th February 2020 for the Medical Directors and Accountants of facilities within the private collaborative quality improvement program in Lagos State.

The training, which was held at Amber Residence, Ikeja, was targeted towards providing support for private facilities in order to ensure the accountability and transparency of hospital finances; as well as improve the quality of business decision making while optimizing the financial and economic benefits to the stakeholders.

One of HSDF’s financial experts, Adesola Ogundiran taught the participants on implementing financial systems in private hospitals, financial management in private facilities as well as components of a financial management system.

HSDF’s financial management systems strengthening intervention is based on the premise of sustaining private medical practice in Nigeria, as the private health sector currently accounts for about 40% of the country’s health care facilities and approximately 60% of its health services.

As a build-up to this training, HSDF will provide support to the facilities in implementing the recommendations disseminated in their baseline reports.
