The fifth and final learning session of the private collaborative cohort under the Nigeria Healthcare Quality Initiative (NHQI) intervention was held on 12th March 2020 at Amber Residence, Ikeja, Lagos state. The session, which was facilitated by the Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF), had in attendance representatives from the 25 private facilities that constitute the private collaborative cohort in Lagos State.
The session was designed to share learnings from the 24-month implementation period of February 2018- January 2020, disseminate the collaborative maternal and newborn health data of the facilities in attendance as well as co-develop action plans for the sustainability of quality improvement gains in the facilities.
Quality Improvement (QI) leads from four private hospitals shared success stories from the change ideas they tested during the 24-month implementation period. One of the foremost facilities to join the private cohort spoke about institutionalizing QI in private hospitals, another spoke on reconstituting the QI team in the facility; improving access to family planning was presented by yet another hospital and the last presentation was on using Model For Improvement (MFI) to improve antenatal clinic attendance.
As the project ends in October 2020, HSDF had the participants observe a break-out session where they deliberated on action plans that would enable the quality improvement achievements of the implementation period to continue to thrive in their respective facilities.
At the end of the session, the participants expressed their appreciation to HSDF for helping them achieve better clinical outcomes on the four QI indicators- maternal health, neonatal care, family planning and patient satisfaction.
