The Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF), facilitated a two-day family planning learning session on Interpersonal Counselling and Communication (IPCC) skills, for select private hospitals that are supported by the Nigeria Healthcare Quality Improvement (NHQI) project in Lagos State. The training was held from 4th -5th February 2020 at the Golfview Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State.

The participants were nurses and family planning providers from hospitals in HSDF’s private collaborative; who are responsible for providing family planning counseling to clients in the supported facilities.

The training modules taught include Value Clarification, Counselling Skills for Health Workers, Balanced Counselling Strategy, and so on. These were delivered through lectures, role plays, demonstrations, and return demonstrations as directed by Lagos State family planning master trainers from the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board.

Following this training, HSDF’s Quality Improvement team will support facilities to implement change ideas in order to ensure that family planning is integrated into the maternal continuum of care; with the overall aim of improving access to family planning.
