Last Thursday, key stakeholders gathered at the FCT Department of Public Health in Abuja to review data management procedures and community outreach plans for the Diabetes Awareness and Care (DAC) Project. The meeting convened Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) officers from the state and area councils, the Environment for Health Development Initiative (E4HDI) team (the Community-Based Organization leading grass-root implementation efforts).
The goal was to critically appraise the current data management processes with a view to enhancing data entry processes and facilitating the transition to the electronic data collection tools for the DAC project. The team also examined the outreach strategy, emphasizing a multi-stakeholder approach to reaching high-risk individuals across target communities.
Other key highlights from the meeting included:
– Transitioning data entry responsibilities from CBOs to area council M&E officers to improve accuracy, accountability, and sustainability.
– Strengthening partnerships among stakeholders to enhance data management.
– Addressing issues such as data discrepancies, platform inefficiencies, and shortages of screening materials to ensure smooth operations.
– Reaffirming the commitment to prioritizing rural areas for health outreach initiatives.
The DAC project was launched in response to the growing prevalence of diabetes and hypertension in Nigeria, particularly in rural areas. With a screening target of 33,000 individuals in 2025 and over 25 planned outreach events across AMAC, Kuje, Bwari, and Gwagwalada, we are dedicated to enhancing decision-making by providing quality data and ensuring that people living with diabetes have access to timely, integrated care.
