The Steering Committee of the Diabetes Awareness & Care (DAC) Project held its fourth meeting on 22nd January  2020 at the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja. The committee comprises eleven stakeholders across the Federal Capital Territory & Imo State, in addition to relevant National representatives.

The Acting Director of Public Health at the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr U.M Ene-Obong, presided over the meeting. Also present were the National Coordinator Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Division of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr Nnenna Ezeigwe; The President, Diabetes Association of Nigeria, Dr Alkali Mohammed; the Executive Secretary, Imo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Perry Njoku; as well as the CEO of Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF), represented by the Director, Public Health Advisory, Dr Lilian Anomnachi; among others.

The Steering Committee exists to provide strategic oversight and governance for project implementation. Due to stakeholder transitions, the composition of the Committee has evolved since it was inaugurated.

The DAC project aims to improve health outcomes by strengthening evidence-based programming and policy-making to improve Diabetes prevention and care services in Nigeria. HSDF, being the technical partner has the responsibility of providing technical support in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and State Ministries of Health, developing the capacity of health staff in active case finding of diabetes and general care, and working with the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics at the National level and in the states to improve the availability, quality and use of data in programming.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the approval of the DAC logo presented by HSDF.
