Earlier this month, we marked a milestone in the Diabetes Awareness and Care (DAC) Project Phase 2 with the official inauguration of the Steering Committee. The event took place at the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) in the Federal Capital Development Agency (FCDA), with both in-person and virtual participants.
The following key stakeholders were in attendance: the Director of Public Health, Executive Secretary, Primary Healthcare Board Executive Secretary, FCT Health Insurance Scheme, Representative from the Hospital Management Board, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Area Council PHC Directors for the 4 LGAs, Heads of Disease Control and Laboratory Divisions in the Department of Public Health and our dedicated HSDF team.
Acting as the Mandate Secretary, the Director of Public Health opened the event and led the formal inauguration of the Steering Committee members. This committee will play a crucial role in guiding the project’s implementation, ensuring its sustainability, and driving efforts to raise awareness, improve access to care, and enhance the use of data on Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and hypertension across the FCT and beyond.
The HSDF team presented a comprehensive update on the progress of the DAC project, showcasing the strides made so far and outlining future steps. The Steering Committee members praised the team’s efforts and committed to fully supporting the initiative.
At the conclusion of the inauguration, the Director of Public Health encouraged all Steering Committee members to remain dedicated to the project’s vision, emphasizing that their continued commitment is vital to ensuring the smooth implementation and long-term success of the project.
