The Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF) in collaboration with Imo State Ministry of health is currently implementing the second phase of Diabetes Awareness and Care (DAC) project in Imo State. The DAC phase 2 project aims to increase awareness, access to integrated care, and utilization of T2DM and hypertension data in four Nigerian States by 2026. One of the strategies of achieving this is to set up a steering committee saddled with the responsibility of providing overall oversight on the project implementation.
On the 11th of December 2023, the inauguration of the Imo State Diabetes Awareness and Care project took place. It was a hybrid event which held at the Imo State Ministry of Health Library with some participants joining virtually. The event was attended by the Honorable Commissioner for Health (HCOH) Dr Prosper Ohayagha, the Director of Public Health (DPH) Dr Austin Okeji, , Dr Jane Adebi NCD Coordinator (SMOH), Dr Anthony Anyanwu (Endocrinologist), Director of Research Planning and Statistics (DPRS), Chief Executive of Hospital management Board (HMB) representative of the Chief Medical Director Imo State Specialist Hospital, and Dr Precious Inyanga Additionally, some staff members of HSDF from FCT and Imo attended the inauguration.
The DAC SteerCo was formally inaugurated by Dr Prosper Ohayagha (Honorable Commissioner for Health). During his speech, he provided overall strategic guidance and direction to current and subsequent NCD programmes in Imo. He also encouraged the SteerCo members to be ready to provide strategic leadership and guidance to the overall goal of the project. The DAC SteerCo members are to drive overall project agenda, provide expert advice and guidance to the project team, review and prioritize bottlenecks and address any issue that has major implications on the project. The Director of Public Health -Dr Austine Okeji (SteerCo Chairperson) on behalf of the SteerCo members assured the Commissioner of the resolve and readiness of the committee to discharge their responsibilities effectively and support the achievement of overall objectives of the DAC project in Imo State.
