Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) represent a significant burden on public health globally, with diabetes and hypertension being two of the most prevalent and impactful conditions. Addressing these NCDs requires a comprehensive approach involving multiple stakeholders.
In response to this pressing need, we are excited to share that the DAC project facilitated and supported the Kano State MoH to establish an NDC Steering Committee, which was inaugurated recently at the Kano State Emergency Operation Center (EOC), by the Honourable Commissioner of Health in Kano State (Chairman), Dr. Abubakar Labaran, who set a clear mandate to ensure the success of the committee in providing guidance and oversights on policies, programs and initiative related to the prevention, management, and control of NCDs in Kano state, specifically diabetes and hypertension.
The event also witnessed the participation of key stakeholders including representatives from the Kano State Ministry of Health, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Bayero University Kano, and various partner organizations such as WHO, Project HOPE, CHAI, eHealth Africa, and AKTH/Diabetics Association of Nigeria, Kano branch. During the meeting, four sub-committees were established: 1. Advocacy and Strategic Planning Committee, 2. Service Delivery Committee, 3. Education and Communication Committee, and 4. Performance management and monitoring and evaluation. HSDF’s strategic leadership role in driving the DAC project in Kano state underscores our commitment to improving health outcomes in Nigeria and beyond.
