As part of our commitment to public health in Nigeria, HSDF, in collaboration with the Imo State Ministry of Health and key partners, successfully led a diabetes health walk in Imo State. The 6 km walk, themed “Diabetes and Wellbeing,” brought together more than 150 participants, including community members, health professionals, and dedicated stakeholders, to raise awareness about diabetes prevention and care.

Leading the way was the Honourable Commissioner for Health (Tertiary and Secondary), Prof. Chukwuemeka Ubaka, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Director of Public Health, Director of Research and Policy, and the NCD Coordinator. Their leadership underscored the government’s commitment to tackling diabetes and improving health outcomes for all residents.

This initiative was further strenghtened by the Diabetes Awareness and Care (DAC) project in Imo State, supported by the World Diabetes Foundation (WDF). These collaborations highlight a unified approach toward accessible and inclusive healthcare solutions.

Following the walk, over 400 individuals were screened for hypertension and diabetes. Participants also received appropriate counseling based on their screening results, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about their health.

The health walk underscored HSDF’s mission of saving lives and livelihoods through impactful public health initiatives. Our commitment to diabetes awareness and care extends across communities, as we work to provide critical screenings, health education, and support systems that empower individuals to take charge of their health.

Together, we are building a future where diabetes is detected earlier, better managed, and understood by all.
