Celebrating our 2023 Achievements and Charting Our Path Forward

Dear HSDF Friends and Family,

Happy New Year! As we embark on the journey of 2024, we wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude for your unwavering support and commitment to our mission of transforming health and social sector in Africa and beyond. The past year has been filled with successes, challenges, and uncertainties, but your steadfast dedication has allowed us to thrive and make significant progress in the face of a changing global landscape. In this rapidly evolving world, the ability to adapt and stay agile is essential. We are proud that Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF) has exemplified this agility by successfully navigating the uncertain environment and continuing to make a meaningful impact in the health and social sector. Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones that deserve celebration.

Expanding our collaborations and partnerships, both locally and internationally, remains a priority for us in 2024. By joining forces with like-minded organizations and institutions, we can increase our impact and make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and communities.

None of our achievements would have been possible without your unwavering support and dedication. As stakeholders, you are an integral part of our journey, and we are immensely grateful for your commitment. Together, we are shaping the future of healthcare in Africa and beyond.

One of our key achievements in the past year has been enhancing the commercial viability and financial sustainability of the USAID funded Connect and Learn for Sustainable Associations (CLOSA) project. Through strategic partnerships and innovative approaches, we have been able to create a self-sustaining model that ensures the project’s long-term impact on sustainable associations in Nigeria.

Another significant accomplishment is the strengthening of health systems for safer childbirth through the MSD for Mothers funded Project Aisha. By training over 500 healthcare professionals, we have empowered them with the knowledge and skills to provide safer care, benefiting over 1000 women and girls. This project has exemplified our commitment to improving maternal and child health outcomes in Nigeria.

Our efforts in digital transformation have also been commendable. As the leaders of the technical working group for the digital and private sector landscape in the Future of Health and Economic Resiliency in Africa (FHERA) project, we have collaborated with multiple global stakeholders to shape the future of healthcare for digital health innovation.

Additionally, we closed the year with on a high note by cohosting, alongside Palladium, the Nigeria Watch Party for the Global Digital Health Forum sponsored by Tech for Change and The World Bank. The event, with hybrid discussions running in Nigeria and Washington DC, laid the foundation for crafting the digital healthcare investment landscape in Africa.

But our accomplishments do not end there. We closed 2023 celebrating a significant milestone in our organization’s journey – the 10-year anniversary of Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF). This momentous occasion is a testament to our collective resilience and unwavering commitment to transforming the health and social sectors.

Over the past decade, we have enjoyed great success trail blazing and driving leadership in our work in Health Systems Strengthening with our innovative programs on management capacity strengthening and in the Public Health Advisory arena driving a novel malaria genomics study. Yet, despite uncertain times and periodic challenges, we have not only survived but thrived. This milestone is a celebration of the remarkable achievements we have accomplished together, and an opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to each one of you for your steadfast support. Together, we have demonstrated that when we unite with purpose, nothing can deter us from our mission. Here’s to the next decade of innovation, impact, and transformation in healthcare.

Thank you once again for your continued support. We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead in 2024 and look forward to achieving even greater heights together.

Wishing you a prosperous and healthy new year.

Warm regards

HSDF Leadership Team.

Empowering Private Sector Associations Across West Africa

The USAID-funded Connect and Learn for Sustainable Associations (CLOSA) project successfully organized three flagship capacity-building workshops for private sector associations across Nigeria, Senegal and Ghana in 2023. These workshops brought together over 60 associations representing over 50,000 small and medium-scale businesses in West Africa, fostering connections and knowledge sharing on membership engagement and financial management systems strengthening. Leveraging regional expertise, the learning sessions continue to have ripple positive effects on business practices across health, entrepreneurship and agriculture in these countries.

To sustain and scale the impact, the project successfully launched the CLOSA Website which serves as a platform for private sector associations within our ecosystem to continue to receive mentorship and connect with other associations for collaboration and business growth and provides access to share relevant resources. Going forward, we will track the deployment of these resources and measure their impact on the performance of these associations periodically.

Trends in Healthcare – AI Spotlight

AI's Revolutionary Impact on Healthcare in Nigeria

Within our Walls

Our vision to save lives and commitment to impact our community continue to drive us as we partnered with the National Blood Service Commission to host a one-day blood drive at our Abuja and Lagos offices in June to mark the 2023 World Blood Donor Day with the theme – BLEED FOR A CAUSE.

During the event, HSDF staff (with some accompanied by their family members) and community members came together to donate blood. 33 individuals partook in the event across both locations

Embracing Emerging Technologies and Creating a Culture for Knowledge Sharing

The roll-out of our first HSDF led Knowledge Café series on leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Business Growth exemplifies our commitment to embracing cutting-edge technologies for enhanced operational efficiency and business growth in the health and social sectors across Africa. Furthermore, as the global landscape continues to evolve rapidly with increased competition for top talent, we recognize that our ability to attract and retain top talents is crucial for our long-term success. As such, we have taken the initial step by launching our full-scale Learning Management System (LMS) to facilitate talent development and knowledge management across our organization.

2023 World Health Day Celebrations

In a bid to build fitness levels and team-spirit across the organization, we organized a Fitness Challenge to mark the 2023 World Health Day. 28 HSDF staff across different countries and office locations participated actively in the challenge using the MyFitnessPal App ramping up a total of 300,000 steps over the 30-day period.
